Jüterbog – Tradition Meets Modern Design

Discover our unique textiles featuring the legendary Jüterbog Hometownshirts Samurai-style motif! Whether it's a T-shirt or a hoodie, for men, women, or children – our collection combines tradition with modern design. The motif shows a proud billy goat with a club, along with the lettering Jüterbog, Fläming, and Brandenburg, as well as the year of its first mention – a tribute to the city's rich history.

The city's coat of arms displays the shield with the well-known division: silver at the top, red at the bottom, and on it the black, right-leaping billy goat with golden hooves and horns.

The Significance of the Club in Jüterbog

The wooden club is deeply rooted in Jüterbog's history. For a long time, a club and a plaque with the words: "Whoever gives bread to their children and later suffers need themselves, shall be beaten to death with the club" have been found at Jüterbog's city gates. The origin of this saying is interpreted differently. According to one tradition, it goes back to a wealthy cloth merchant who gave away his fortune to his descendants during his lifetime, later became impoverished, and received no support from them. Others see the clubs as a sign of the high court jurisdiction granted to the city in the 14th century.

Jüterbog – City of History

Even today, Jüterbog's old town is characterized by medieval buildings. Visitors are immediately struck by the mighty towers of St. Nikolai, as well as the three city gates through which one enters the old town.

Over the centuries, Jüterbog has repeatedly been the scene of significant historical events:

  • Martin Luther nailed his theses for the Reformation of the Church to the door in neighboring Wittenberg, while indulgence preacher Johann Tetzel was busy in Jüterbog.
  • Wallenstein stayed here during the Thirty Years' War.
  • Prussian King Frederick opened the Seven Years' War from Jüterbog.
  • During the time of Kaiser Wilhelm, Jüterbog was considered the largest garrison town in Germany.
  • During the German Romantic period, Achim von Arnim wrote "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" from neighboring Wiepersdorf.
  • Theodor Fontane immortalized Jüterbog in his "Wanderings through the Mark Brandenburg," and who doesn't know the fairy tale of the blacksmith of Jüterbog who outsmarted death with a pear tree and a coal sack?
  • Ludwig Bechstein wrote down this city fairy tale.
  • During the period 1938–1944, Jüterbog was a training center for all legal trainees of those years in Germany.
  • Afterward, the city was one of the largest sites for stationed Soviet troops.

In Jüterbog, traces from almost all epochs of history can be discovered and explored. A trip to Jüterbog is like a journey into the history of our country.
